Twenty Chinese Martial Arts (also called Wushu in Chinese) enthusiasts from five African countries including Rwanda and Uganda are learning Wushu at the Tianjin Huo Yuanjia Civil and Military School, a boarding school focusing on both cultural knowledge and martial arts. The school is named after Huo Yuanjia, a famous Chinese patriot and martial artist.
The African students joined a China-Africa culture training "One Thousand Talent Plan" and came to Tianjin to receive three-months of martial arts training.
They can already practice some Chinese traditional Wushu routines such as Taichi, Changquan, Po Dao (a sword with a long blade and a short hilt wielded with both hands) and Huaqiang (short spear trickery).
They will promote these martial arts to people in their countries and help African Wushu enthusiasts learn more about this traditional Chinese culture.
