Tianjin builds industrial parks of China CNR Corporation and China South Railway and Lin’gang shipbuilding base, equipment manufacturing becomes trillion-yuan industry

The equipment manufacturing is a basic and strategic industry to provide technological equipment for different sectors of national economy. It guarantees the industrial upgrading and technological advancement, and reflects the comprehensive strength and technology level of a country or region.

In 2013, the equipment manufacturing industry achieved output value of 1.02 trillion CNY and became the first trillion-yuan industry in Tianjin, accounting for 38.6 percent of Tianjin’s industries. The projects such as industrial parks of China CNR Corporation and China South Railway in Tianjin and China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation’s Lin’gang shipbuilding base attributed a lot to the city’s equipment manufacturing industry.

Tianjin industrial park of China CNR Corporation is one of the sixth group major industrial projects in the city. It covers an area of 1,500 mu (100 hectares) in Dongli District. With an investment of 3.7 billion CNY, the project is mainly engaging in production of rail vehicles and wind turbine generator systems. The project maintained or assembled 500 sets of rail vehicles per year. Its annual output value is expected to hit 6 billion CNY, while the tax exceeds 300 million CNY.

Located in Beichen District, Tianjin industrial park of China South Railway includes the projects of urban rail vehicles, wind power equipment and new energy buses. With over 3 billion CNY of investment, the park is one of 170 major projects of Tianjin, creating sales revenue of more than 10 billion CNY.

China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation’s Lin’gang shipbuilding base, covering 3.5 sq km, is the largest shipbuilding area in China. Focusing on high added-value ships, the base’s main products are bulk carriers, container vessels and ro-ro passenger ships. Meanwhile, it mainly provides voyage repair, average repair and conversion services for ships with deadweight capacity below 100,000 tons.

According to Tianjin’s Three-year Action Plan (2015-2017) on High-end Equipment Industry, the high-end equipment industry includes aviation and aerospace, ocean engineering equipment, intelligent manufacturing equipment and rail traffic equipment.

Tianjin will prioritize the development of ten traditional fields, including aviation and aerospace, maritime engineering complete equipment and advanced rail traffic equipment; Tianjin will advance the development of three new emerging industries, including robots and supporting parts, 3D printing equipment and intelligent medical devices. Meanwhile, it will strengthen the supporting ability of four components–intelligent devices, key system parts, basal spare parts and advanced materials, in order to cultivate a “10+3+4” industrial development pattern.

Before the end of 2017, Tianjin will carry different projects in the fields such as aviation and aerospace, ocean engineering equipment and intelligent equipment, with investment totaling nearly 100 billion CNY. These projects are estimated to add output value of more than 200 billion CNY, and provide support for the city’s high-end equipment manufacturing industry. Tianjin’s high-end equipment industry would be about 330 billion CNY by then and have a bigger proportion in the city’s equipment manufacturing industry.
