New York's Juilliard School of Music is to open its campus in Tianjin, a port city of in northern China, in September, 2018, which will be the first overseas branch in a decade.
This will be an innovative example of 'globalizing education'. The school will use world advanced technology to incorporate performances from two countries.

In addition, the school will be more open to the public by live streaming students' performance through a large LED screen outside the building.
The US school is fully in charge of the management and master degrees will be validated by the Juilliard School in both America and China.
The school will offer courses in such areas as orchestra music, chamber music, and piano performance, "for all of which there is a strong demand" in China.

Currently, the Juilliard School has more than 800 students from all over the world, of whom 10 percent are from China. The overseas branch in Tianjin will recruit students from China and further afield, such as South East Asia.
Joseph Polisi, head master of Juilliard School, said," the establishment of the Tianjin branch will give the school an international identity and an opportunity to expand."

The design for the new campus has been passed by the local government, and the site will be constructed by a local company.
Tianjin has been identified as a 'key area for China's future growth'. Its Pilot Free Trade Zone in the Binhai New Area has attracted many foreign companies, schools and hospitals with its preferential policies.
