Fang Jingbiao, director of the Tianjin Overseas Chinese Affairs Office, said what the campers learned is just the tip of the Chinese cultural iceberg. He hoped they can participate in more activities like "China Roots Trip" to broaden their knowledge about Chinese culture.

The summer camp was separated into two sub-camps -- a Chinese culture experience camp and a Huo Yuanjia martial arts camp -- in which various courses on Chinese traditional culture were arranged, such as poetry, Peking Opera, martial arts, calligraphy, tea arts and kite-making.

Men Yuxin, the teachers representative, said the summer camp built a bridge for the overseas Chinese children to learn more about China and offered an opportunity for Chinese and overseas students to become friends.

They also visited some famous attractions including Huangyaguan Great Wall, a key strategic pass of the Great Wall, the Ancient Cultural Street (Guwenhua Jie), and the Botanical Garden of Chinese herb medicines.

Ren Mengtian, a camper from Mongolia, said this is the second time she has come to Tianjin and it is like going home. She will share her experiences with her family and friends.
