The Beidagang Wetland in the Binhai New Area of Tianjin, China is constructing new bird watching bases which are supposed to open within the year. The bases will help ensure the birds have a smooth migration and further bolster the international reputation of the sanctuary.
Staff at the Beidagang Wetland Nature Reserve management center said the visitors will be able to watch the birds without disturbing them once the bases are completed, which sould better protect the willife.
A growing number of East Asian birds pass through Beidagang Wetland on their migration to and from Australia each spring and autumn. Bird watchers and experts estimate that nearly one million birds breed in the wetland every year during the migratory seasons.

To this end, Beidagang Wetland has become a vital bird watching base. According to the records of wetland management center's records, 249 different kinds of migratory birds have visited the reserve, 11 of which are listed as national first-grade attentive protected species and 34 are national second-grade attentive protected species.
Take the oriental stork as an example. So far, more than 800 of them have been spotted in the wetland and there are only 3,000 in total around the world.
In addition, the wetland now is also establishing a new wildlife rescue center and a national bird banding center to further develop the Beidaguang Wetland National Park's ability to track, protect and preserve these rare birds.
