Tianjin appears to have become one of China's key modern manufacturing centers, since its industrial output for 2015 stands at 3-trillion yuan ($460 million), with advanced manufacturing, accounting for the lion’s share of industrial output, at 50 percent.

The city says it is working to build 10 advanced manufacturing clusters that combine information technology and manufacturing in: top equipment, new generation information technology, aerospace, new energy vehicles, new materials, bio-medicines, medical equipment, energy conservation, environmental protection, modern petrochemicals and modern metallurgy.

Information technology is expected to help the old traditional manufacturing and prepare it for the information age and the city says it is also building a risk control mechanism for loans to micro-to-small-to-mid-sized enterprises to deal with financing problems.

Also in 2005, the city raised as much as 6-billion yuan for compensating these enterprises for losses occurring from non-performing loans, with the city government, banks, and enterprises all accepting this approach practice with great enthusiasm. Back in 2005, the city saw an increase of more than 30-percent in loans to these enterprises, with those for micro-to-small enterprises increasing more than 45 percent.
