An opening ceremony in Tianjin for its "Tianjin Education Street" project, on April 26, drew in public figures from the culture sector and the heads of education institutions in China and abroad because of the project's attempt to combine traditional culture with top quality education, and to find ways to reform the education system and current mode where academic success outweighs virtue.
The city says it hopes to improve the quality of future students overall and nurture a generation of people with great dreams and a moral character and, according to a sponsor of the project, Wang Zhen, they hope to make up for the deficiency in the exam-oriented education approach by combining it with more advanced education resources.
The project has already received some positive reviews from education institutions and parents and the organizers appear to have taken the initiative and responsibility to try to instill hope in the public about education in the future so that, over time, quality education will benefit the younger generation who can go on to score some successes.
