China’s north port city of Tianjin held a grand talent show of guoxue, or studies of ancient Chinese classics, for primary school students on April 10, reported people.com.cn.
The launching ceremony, led by the civilization office of Tianjin, was co-sponsored by eight local organizations and companies.
Students at kindergartens and primary schools are encouraged to read traditional Chinese classics to cultivate their interest in and taste for traditional Chinese culture.
Students are also expected to abide by traditional Chinese etiquette and behave in a suitable manner.
Cui Hanyuan, a grade-two pupil from a local international school, gave a speech as the student representative.
Media reports say that many students from local kindergartens, primary and middle schools have signed up for the activity.
