Tianjin people spend $ 3, 987 per year, food is leading expense

Tianjin’s rural resident spent 26, 230 yuan ($ 3, 987) on average last year, a year-on-year increase of 8.0 percent. Food spending ranked first among the eight major categories, according to local authorities.

Data from the Tianjin Municipal Statistics Bureau show that per capita expenditure on foods arrives at 8, 448 yuan ($ 1, 284), an increase of 4.7 percent over the 2014 level.

Prices of quality food materials are on the rise and Tianjin residents ate more in restaurants during 2014, which pushed up the spending, reported people.com.cn, the website of China’s leading newspaper People’s Daily.

Accommodation ranked second with an average expenditure of 5, 667 yuan ($ 861). Analysis shows that people spend more money on housing decoration and renovation.

Spending on transportation, education and entertainment and clothing ranked third, fourth and fifth respectively.

Tianjin residents spent on average 1, 888 yuan ($ 287) on health care, an annual increase of about 9.7 percent. Analysts say that the improvement of the medical insurance system is a contributing factor.

Spending on daily necessities and other services are among the highest growers, with an annual increase of 14.8 percent and 17.7 percent respectively. Media reports citing insiders show that rural Tianjin residents bought more gold products and luxurious goods in 2014.
