The overall consumer price index (CPI) in Tianjin grew 1.5 percent in the first half of 2015, according to the National Bureau of Statistics Tianjin branch.

Food prices increased 1.3 percent and non-food prices increased 1.6 percent. The price of industrial products declined 0.3 percent, and the price of services increased 3.8 percent. The Index measures the prices of eight categories. Entertainment, education, and cultural products increased 5.6 percent; also increasing were prices of clothing (3.2 percent) and living (2.4 percent) and household devices and repair (0.6 percent). Other categories experienced falling prices: transportation and telecommunication (3.2 percent), medication and healthcare (0.2 percent), and tobacco and alcohol (0.1 percent).

The price of food declined in general, but the increasing price of services contributed to an overall increase.

The increase in prices was largely due to the increases in entertainment, living and food. Labor costs kept growing, contributing 3.8 percent of the increasing price of residential services. The price of educational services increased 14.3 percent, culture and entertainment expenses increased 2.7 percent, and the price of household services and repairs increased 2.6 percent.

Tianjin ranked the 10th among 31 provinces and 13th among 36 large cities by CPI increase rate.
