A community exchange between Tianjin and Taiwan was held on June 9, when the Zhaofeng Community in Tianjin welcomed 15 Taiwan residents from Pingdong county and Yilan county.

As the Dragon Boat Festival approaches, the Tianjin and Taiwan residents made zongzi (a traditional Chinese rice dumpling), enjoyed Chinese operas, and made Chinese paper-cuts to celebrate the festival.

Nearly 200 Taiwan residents from 13 counties, cities, and villages visited different districts and counties in Tianjin. Residents communicated about the experience in community development.

Zhaofeng Community is located in the prosperous area of Binjiang Road in Tianjin. Residents emphasize care for elderly and disabled residents.

Xu Hanhong, a faculty of Fo Guang University in Taiwan visited interest groups in Zhaofeng Community and was attracted by the community culture in Tianjin. The Zhaofeng Community developed interest groups on calligraphy, knitting, Peking Opera, and baking.

"This is my first time visiting Tianjin. I'm so moved by their care for disabled people," said Xu.

It was also the first time Taiwan resident Yang Jinyan participaed in a community exchange event. She received traditional Tianjin style paper-cuts as gift from Tianjin residents.

"The community exchange is very meaningful. Both the Chinese mainland and Taiwan put emphasis on traditional festivals such as the Dragon Boat Festival. I taste a different festive atmosphere in Tianjin," said Yang.

The community exchange event was first held in October of 2012. Until now, the event has been held for four times. A total of 700 Taiwan residents have visited Tianjin and communicated with Tianjin communities through the event, according to the Taiwan Affairs Office of Tianjin.
