Li Jiaqi, director of the clock mechanism design center of Tianjin Seagull Clock Group, told a story about Chinese clock design at the "Our Value" discussion at the Tianjin Binhai Airport Economic Area recently.

Last March, a watch with a Jiefang Bridge pattern on the plate drew collectors' attention at the International Clock Exposition in Basel, Switzerland.

As a Tianjin icon constructed in 1927, the Jiefang Bridge is a bascule bridge that can be folded and unfolded. The astonishing design of the watch allows the bridge to fold and unfold with the movement of the watch hands.

After countless attempts, Li finally managed to apply the bridge design to the watch. The watch is under production right now and will soon be on the market.

Born in 1963, Li has worked in clock machienry for 35 years and was awarded as a Master Clock Mechanic in China in 2014. Li has designed many Seagull brand watches, 18 of which were exhibited at the exposition in Basel.

Li said, "This year is the 60th anniversary of the establishment of Seagull Clock Group. The corporation decided to design a watch to celebrate the anniversary. As Jiefang Bridge is an icon of Tianjin, a watch featuring the bridge will also promote the image of Tianjin."
