Tianjin will begin work on the main body of the National Maritime Museum in March and try to complete it by the end of the year, as a place to handle as many as 48,000 exhibitions and 2000 historical relics and specimens.
This is not only China's first maritime museum, but also Tianjin's first national museum. It is shaped like a school of fish and has a part on land, along the coast, and on the ocean to represent the characteristics of ocean and land.
The exhibitions will be indoor and there will be an ocean park outside, as well as over the water and along the coast. The design will link the environment, ecology, and ocean and try to free visitors' imagination from the limitations of the showroom.
It will have four theme parks - the East dyke, the Seawall, the Shell dyke, and the Ecological park - around the main building to form a marine cultural park.
The ground between the first and second floor of the maritime museum will be open to allow exhibitions that are extra tall and heavy and offer visitors an immersive experience by presenting featured situations, such as the underwater world and the polar region.
Thanks to all the support, the museum has collected 42,100 exhibits and estimates that there will be as many as 48,000 by the end of the year. According to some analysts, the museum has an exhibition need ranging from 5,000 to 6,500.
