The Tianjin Market and Quality Supervision Commission published a report on food safety in 2014, according to which, no quality and safety major liability accident was found in Tianjin's food production industry during 2014.
The main business income of the food industry reached 260 billion yuan ($16 billion), which took up nine percent of the city's gross industrial output value. The average production value of registered food production enterprises ranked first in the entire country.
Until the end of 2014, the total number of operators with a food circulating registration in Tianjin had reached 58,085. In 2014, Tianjin received registrations for a total of 358 health food species, which accounted for 2.52 percent of the total number nationwide and ranked it in second place domestically.
In 2014, Tianjin launched supervisions and random inspections on 33 types of food and related products, including dairy products, meat products, cooking oil and oil products, food additives, and cosmetics.
Among the 2,659 batches of products that were inspected, a total of 2,615 met the standard, with a qualified rate reaching 98.35 percent. The qualified rates of a total of 17 types of products reached 100 percent, including dairy products, frozen beverages, and frozen foods.
Tianjin has launched random inspections on 3,154 batches of food products during circulation. The qualified rate has reached 85.55 percent, while the qualified rate of food quality has reached 92.83 percent.
Four problems were found according to the inspection result. Firstly, the food safety problem during circulation in rural areas still exists. Secondly, related organizations should not neglect the food safety problem in shopping malls and supermarkets. Thirdly, follow up inspections on recreational food products should be enhanced. Fourthly, the nutrition label of food products remains a serious issue.
Until the end of 2014, a total of 72 cases had been investigated. Up to 359.44 kilograms of unqualified food products had been confiscated. The total amount of fines reached 546,200 yuan.
In 2014, Tianjin city launched random inspections on 524 batches of catering food products. The inspection result shows that the qualified rate reached 73.5 percent and the qualified rate of food safety quality reached 98.09 percent. A total of 52,562.02 kilograms of unqualified food products were confiscated.
Until the end of 2014, the entire city had investigated 341 food safety cases, had imposed fines of 728,000 yuan, and had confiscated unqualified food products with a total value of 231,000 yuan.
