The first set of Chinese stamps featuring "Huangmei Opera" has been released to the public in Anhui Province which is the home of Huangmei Opera. It’s another release of opera stamps after Peking opera and Kunqu opera. A teacher from Nankai University’s Chinese digital painting research center – Zhang Wang – designed the stamp and stamp collecting companies will organize signing activities in Tianjin.
The set of Huangmei Opera contains three stamps which include contents from Tianxianpei, Nvfuma, and Dazhucao. The face value of the set is about 0.5 dollars. The “Huangmei Opera” stamps feature Huangmei opera artists from the old generation. The painting makes sure the costume and gestures are all from original works of the plays.
Chinese digital painting is an art form using computer and appropriate software. It's a combination of Chinese painting and digital art. The set of "Huangmei Opera" stamps is the first successful attempt at digital Chinese painting in designing stamps.
"Chinese digital painting has a lot of advantages in revising sections of the work. If the work uses traditional ways to paint, any little revision could bring a change of the whole painting, but digital painting is a lot different," Zhang said.
Huangmei opera is a type of local opera and an intangible cultural heritage. It originates from the early Tang dynasty and has 1400 years of history. Huangmei opera is one of the five biggest operas in China, along with Peking opera, Yueju opera, Pingju opera, and Yuju opera. The release of the Huangmei Opera stamps will help to spread traditional Chinese opera culture to the public.
