The Xi Di (樨地) community as long boasted several expat-friendly attractions due to its prominent location near the three universities in Tianjin.

Now there's a new hang-out in town: 211 House. Easy to find — the name is the address — this cozy café resembles a comfortable sitting room.

In this inviting environment, it's not out of the ordinary for customers to spend the entire afternoon here, sipping drinks, reading, chatting with friends or surfing the Internet. The quiet space is a refuge from the bustle of the city outside its doors.

The descor includes bookshelves, potted plants and a strategically placed bar and tea tables, and the relaxing lounge music that drifts through the café sets the tone for the atmosphere.

The varied drink menu offers something for everyone, including

coffee, teas, and alcoholic drinks. Although expats are often disappointed by local western restaurants, they won't be let down at 211.

The Western dishes here are the real deal, including a Beef Sandwich (38 yuan) that was recently added to the menu. The bread is extremely crunchy and the beef dressed with cheese is nice and tender.

The 211 House Salad (36 yuan) is a signature dish of the restaurant. Based on a low-calorie concept, the dish is a mixture of lettuce, tomato, corn, nuts, raisin, ham and cheese.

As a new-opening promotion, you'll get free salad and coffee (or tea) if you order a main course. The restaurant stays open until midnight.
