Yangliuqing New Year Painting

As China’s famous woodcut New Year painting, Yangliuqing New Year Painting combines the traditions of Chinese paintings of the Song and Yuan Dynasties and the forms of woodcut paintings, arts, and dramas of the Ming Dynasty to form a new painting technique incorporating woodblock and hand printing. The paintings are prominent for its lively and auspicious features.

Zhang Mingshan, founder of Clay Figure Zhang, got this nickname for his magical craftsmanship. Without looking, Zhang can make lively clay figures by kneading with his two bare hands in his sleeves while chatting with other people. Sets of clay figures are taken from myths, dramas, fictions, and real life.

Peking Opera

Tianjin owns China’s key Peking opera troupes including Tianjin Youth Peking Opera Troupe and Tianjin Peking Opera Troupe. They have top-class performers and many Peking opera followers, making Peking opera one of the most popular performing groups in the Tianjin market.

Xiangsheng(Stand-up Comedy)

Xiangsheng, with its crosstalk and dialogue or monologue with humorous and sarcastic tones, has been entertaining Chinese people for a long time. Ma Sanli is a prominent Xiangsheng artist, Xiangsheng has become increasingly popular, especially among the youth, as they think it as a fashionable to entertain people this way.

Kite Wei

Wei is the surname of Tianjin’s most famous kite maker Wei Yuantai. Wei’s kite can be folded and kept in an envelope for the convenience of carrying it around and storing. Kite Wei once was awarded gold medals of the Panama-Pacific International Exposition in 1914.
