Five teachers from universities in Tianjin were among 100 awardees from across China to receive 2009 Award for Distinguished Teachers in College presented at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing yesterday.
The five teachers were Shen Panwen and Li Wei’an from Nankai University, Tian Yiling from Tianjin University, Yao Jiaxin from the Tianjin University of Sport, and Xue Wei from the Tianjin Transportation Vocational College.
“I have just done what a teacher should do.” said Li Wei’an when he received the award. He teaches the courses on company management at the business college of Nankai University. Sticking to the principles of being strict, creativity, leadership and responsibility, Li Wei’an established an experimental lab for putting theories into practice.

93-year-old Shen Panwen teaches a course in Inorganic Chemistry at the chemistry college of Nankai University. He also edited the guide to chemistry in modern times. Shen even has a blog to share his concerns over education reform in China.
