The 21 major scenic and rural-tourism spots in Tai'an, East China's Shandong province received 1.69 million visitors during the weeklong National Day break from Oct 1 to 7, according to data released by the Tai'an government last Sunday.

A total of 132 million yuan ($19.13 million) in revenue was reaped by the 21 scenic spots during the seven days.

The staging of a variety of themed activities, high levels of customer service and affordable prices at the scenic spots have been attributed as being the main reasons for the city's tourist boom during the holiday.

The Tai'an Fantawild Adventure organized 30 themed celebration activities to mark the anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. The Sun Tribe theme park offered 60-yuan discount tickets for all tourists and children below 1.4 meters in height were given free entry. The Tianyi Lake Tourist Resort Area held a series of activities, including a float parade, tai chi and guzheng (Chinese zither) performances, and painting and calligraphy exhibitions.

Mount Tai Scenic Area set up self-service ticket checking machines which used identification cards to reduce the visitors' queuing times. The Tai'an government also embarked on a series of measures to bring convenience for visitors, including putting on more services on the main line routes between the railway stations and scenic spots, extending the operation hours of buses in Tai'an, allowing cars free access to the parking lot of the Tai'an administrative service center, and providing tourist information services.

As a result, Mount Tai Scenic Area received 321,619 tourists during the seven-day holiday, a year-on-year increase of 10.57 percent, and its income amounted to 26.07 million yuan, up 7.44 percent from the same period last year.

The number of tourists visiting the Sun Tribe theme park, Tianyi Lake Tourist Resort Area, and Tai'an Fantawild Adventure all exceeded 100,000, with their income reaching over 5 million yuan. The Sun Tribe theme park and Tai'an Fantawild Adventure both had an income over 10 million yuan.
