The ceremony for the 2567th birthday of Confucius, China's greatest philosopher and the founder of Confucian culture, will be marked around the world on Sept 28, according to the China National Radio website.

Sponsored by the China Confucius Foundation, a news conference was held on Sept 9 in Jinan, capital city of East China's Shandong province, to announce the establishment of a global alliance to celebrate Confucius' birthday on Sept 28.

Wang Chengshan, chief editor of China Kongzi, an online networking platform which publishes research results and academic trends in the field of Confucianism and traditional Chinese culture; Kong Xianglin, a 75th generation descendent of Confucius (551-479 BC) and director of the China Confucius Foundation; and Qu Zhi, a famous Chinese scholar, all attended the news conference.

Kong introduced the global alliance which has been set up by several institutions from both home and abroad, including the China Confucius Foundation, the Confucian Academy based in Hong Kong and MATAKIN –– a Confucian church based in Indonesia. The alliance has been established to promote the commemoration of Confucius' birthday globally, and to improve the understanding and friendship among people across the world.

Wang said that the China Kongzi website will link with other websites to broadcast the commemoration ceremony to be held on Sept 28.

Qu, as the director of the practice center of Chinese proprieties based at Jinping Mountain in Jinan, reported the progress of preparation work for the upcoming commemoration at the news conference.
