The head of China’s top court called for strengthening of smart court construction, including the application of judicial big data and artificial intelligence in trials and law enforcement, at a ceremony held on Jan 5 in Beijing.

Two systems – a smart court navigation system and a same type cases smart push system -- went into operation.

Zhou Qiang, chief justice and president of the Supreme People's Court, said courts around the country should further push ahead with smart court construction to accommodate the new trial procedures.

Zhou said that court informatization construction is part of any innovation-oriented country.

It also facilitates modernized trial systems and ability to reach sound judgments, according to Zhou.

“Court informatization construction is a profound self-reform,” said Zhou. “The basic pattern of smart courts is taking shape.”

He also demanded further improvements to litigation services and trial efficiency.

Presided over by Liu Guixiang, member of the SPC judicial committee, the launching ceremony attracted court officials as well as senior management personnel from Baidu Group and China Electronics Technology Group Corporation, two leading tech firms in China.
