Established in 1981, Shanxi University’s journalism major was one of the country’s earliest courses to train journalism professionals. In February 2017, the school of journalism was officially established, with a department of journalism and a department of advertising.
The school currently has 30 teaching and administrative staff, including 19 full-time teachers, nine with doctorates, one doctoral supervisor and one consultant expert on the national higher education committee.
Jointly built by the Publicity Department of the CPC Shanxi Provincial Committee and Shanxi University, the school of journalism is a base training for the country’s excellent journalism professionals, according to university officials.
Each year, it recruits students for undergraduate programs in journalism and advertising. The school boasts the only postgraduate program in journalism and communication in Shanxi province.
Facing the future, the school will adhere to the principle of building a solid foundation, aiming for first-class standards.
It will seek innovative development, to continue to evolve into an important training base for excellent journalism professionals, based in Shanxi and influencing the whole country.
Its goal is to become a think tank platform for promoting Shanxi and serving local development, as well as to be a first-class and nationally renowned journalism school with distinctive features.
