Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao Students Application Guidelines for the 2019 Undergraduate Programs

Shanxi University, founded in 1902, is a university co-developed by the State Ministry of Education and the People’s Government of Shanxi Province. Shanxi University has inherited the glorious tradition of “Knowing the East and the West; seeking goodness and truth; valuing virtue and talent; strengthening oneself and serving the country” and promoted the school spirit of “Being diligent, strict, honest and creative”.

The campus covers 174 hectares, with 1,100,000 square meters of office and classroom space, and has two parts: a north part characterized by an elegant, traditional design and a southern one with stylish modern buildings. The university covers many disciplines and 12 academic fields, with 93 undergraduate specialties and 10 undergraduate double-majors. There are 14 post-doctoral research sites, 17 PhD disciplines, 38 master’s degree disciplines and 13 engineering master’s degree disciplines.

The university has key State-level laboratories, Education Ministry laboratories, Education Ministry humanities and social sciences research bases and an Education Ministry approved engineering research center -- which provide the university with a solid academic and scientific research foundation. It also in charge of many nation’s 973 Projects; 863 Projects, and vital projects organized by the National Natural Science Foundation, as well as the Social Science Foundation. Sixteen of the project results have won national awards, including the Natural Science award; Technological Innovation award; national Scientific and Technological Progress award; Outstanding Achievement in the Humanities award from the Education Ministry, a Social Sciences award for Chinese Higher Education Institutions and an Education Ministry Natural Science award.

Shanxi University is staffed by high-quality academic lecturers and has attained remarkable achievements in cultivating skills. At present, Shanxi University has 2,095 full-time teachers, of whom 999 have obtained advanced academic titles. There are professional lectures from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, national outstanding professional and technical talents, national model teachers, leading teachers and experts in our university.

The university has increasingly enlarged its international exchanges. It has established intercollegiate relationships with over 60 universities and institutions from the United States, Japan, South Korea, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Canada and other countries, which has created favorable conditions for Shanxi University students to study abroad.

In addition, in November 2009 Shanxi University collaborated with the Pfeiffer University in the United States and set up a Confucius Institute. The establishment of the Confucius Institute has provided more opportunities for international students to study in China.

Currently, the university has 30,181 students, 24,088 of whom are undergraduates.

Application Prerequisites

1.Applicants must be Taiwan, Hong Kong or Macao residents with a valid ID card and hold a mainland travel permit for Taiwan, Hong Kong or Macao residents;

*Hong Kong and Macao residents hold permanent resident ID card and a mainland travel permit for Hong Kong or Macao residents;

*Hong Kong and Macao residents hold non-permanent resident ID card and a mainland travel permit for Hong Kong or Macao residents;

* Taiwan residents hold a mainland travel permit for Taiwan residents;

* Residents of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan who have emigrated to a foreign country and who are now applying to study at Shanxi University as international students must have held a valid foreign passport for at least 4 years, and must have resided in a foreign country for at least two years in the past four years (as of April 30, 2019). (Nine months of residence in a foreign country may count as a full year. The dates of the entry and exit stamps in the passport will be followed in the determination of the actual length of foreign residence.)

2.Applicants much have attained a senior high school diploma;

3.Applicants must be in good health (qualified for the Guiding Opinions on the Enrollment of General Colleges and Universities jointly issued by the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Health and China Disabled Persons’ Federation) and show proper behavior.

Application Timeline

 Feb 1 - July 1, 2019. Late applications will not be considered.

Application Procedures

1.Applicants should apply online and check www.ecogd.edu.cn. Applicants can log into the online application system to view the test scores and the results of their application.

2.Overseas Chinese applicants must be confirmed and tested on the spot at the registration sites the mainland China. At the time of registration, overseas Chinese candidates must hold a notarial certificate issued by the Chinese embassy (consulate) to obtain long-term or permanent residency in foreign countries and hold a passport of the People's Republic of China.

Test

All applicants must participate in an on-site examination and the test subjects are as follows:

*Subjects for applicants who apply for majors related to literature and history: Chinese, Mathematics, English, History and Geography

*Subjects for applicants who apply for majors related to medical science, agriculture, engineering, science and technology: Chinese, Mathematics, English, Chemistry and Physics

Full scores of the two subject categories are both 750.

Acceptance

Candidates who qualify for the national admission requirements and who are in good health will be accepted by Shanxi University.

Tuition Fee 

Students from Taiwan pay the same tuition fee as those in the Chinese mainland

Admission and Qualification Review

1.Qualified students should report to Shanxi University with their Admissions Letter and the time for registration will be based on the time specified in the Admissions Letter. If you are unable to report on time, you should ask for leave in advance and get approval. Those who have not reported and have not taken leave within the specified time will be disqualified.

2.The validity period of a students’ entry and exit documents should be compatible with the study period.

3.Shanxi University will review the admissions qualification of applicants and require that students undergo a physical examination. Those who do not meet the medical examination requirements will be disqualified.

University Management and Graduation

1.Shanxi University is committed to implementing the Provisions for the Recruitment and Cultivation of Students in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, the Macao Special Administrative Region and Taiwan Province, issued by the Ministry of Education.

2.Students are required to complete the curriculum within the specific study period and fulfill the designated credits. Successful graduates will receive a graduation certificate along with a Bachelor's degree, according to the regulations of the Degree Committee.

3.Students can leave mainland China to visit relatives and friends at their own expense in the summer and winter vacations.
