Panelists gather in SXU to research Shanxi dialects

A meeting focusing on the research and protection of Shanxi local dialects convened in Shanxi University (SXU) on Sept 29.
Over 40 language experts and researchers took part in the conference, aiming to examine the on-going procedures and progress made in recent weeks.
The campaign, as part of Chinese Language Protection Project, arranges 17 survey places including two vanishing dialects and dispatches language workers to investigate the pronunciations, sound recording and video shooting.
During the conference, experts offered instructive advice to the dialects protection work to guarantee the accuracy of vocabulary and grammar.
Attendees included Qiao Jianhua, director of Shanxi Language Standardization Committee; Xing Xiangdong, presiding expert of Shaanxi Language Protection Project; Gu Qian, head of the Dialect and Culture Institute of Nanjing University; and Sun Huaxian, professor from the College of Literal Arts of Nanjing Normal University.
