The School of Computer and Information Technology of Shanxi University was established based on the Department of Computer Science founded in 1980, which has a relatively long history in China.
The school has one mobile post-doctoral station of computer science and technology, two primary discipline doctoral programs of computer science and technology and software engineering respectively, one subordinate discipline doctoral program of systems engineering, two primary discipline masters programs of computer science and technology and software engineering respectively, one subordinate discipline masters program of systems engineering, two masters of engineering programs of computer technology and software engineering respectively, two undergraduate programs of computer science and technology and software engineering respectively, one key laboratory of the Ministry of Education in computation intelligence and Chinese information processing, one provincial key laboratory of intelligent information processing, one provincial key discipline of computer application technology. The undergraduate program of computer science and technology is a provincial brand specialty, and has been authorized by the Ministry of Education as a construction site of characteristic specialty.
The school currently has 67 faculty members, including 7 full-time professors, 18 associate professors and 1 senior experimentalist. There are 21 PhD degree holders, 30 master’s degree holders, 7 PhD supervisors and 24 master's supervisors. There are four experts enjoying the special government allowances of the State Council, one included in the Ministry of Education Program for New Century Excellent Talents in University, one awarded with the Shanxi May lst Labour Medal, one selected into the "Shanxi New Century Academic Technology Pioneers-333 Talents" Project, two honored with the "Shanxi Young and Middle-aged Top-Notch Innovative Talents in Colleges and Universities", three provincial Young Academic Leaders, one provincial Young Scientist, three provincial Young Scientific Experts, one provincial Model Teacher, 2 provincial Star Teachers and one distinguished visiting professor included in the Shanxi One Hundred Talent Plan.
The school also employed one academician from the Chinese Academy of Sciences and nine adjunct professors from the Institute of Computing Technology of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Tsinghua University, Xi'an Jiaotong University, City University of Hong Kong, University of Regina, and the Sydney University of Technology. The laboratories of the school cover an area of 2,350 square meters with 1,450 sets of equipment that includes minicomputers for scientific research and teaching, workstations, microcomputers and other equipment. The school library has a collection of more than 20,000 copies of professional books, 45 kinds of academic periodicals from home and abroad, and 24 kinds of domestic and foreign electronic resources including Elsevier Science, Springer, Kluwer, ACM Digital Library, IEEE Transactions and Wangfang Data.
Until now, the school has cultivated 5,043 undergraduates and 577 graduates since its foundation. It is a huge bank of talented and advanced professionals for the Shanxi province, and even extends to the whole country.
