Pingyao lacquer painting wins a national award

An artist from Pingyao, Shanxi province, Jia Xinglin, has won a 1st place award at a recent Chinese craftsmanship ceremony which was sponsored by the China National Arts and Crafts Society and a Taiwan arts and crafts institution, with his lacquer painting.
Lacquer painting is a traditional art form in Pingyao.
The award was started in 2013 to promote the development of the art form and for cross-Straits cooperation and this year brought in 925 works from the mainland and Taiwan, in ceramics, wood carving, stone carving and other areas. The award winners are expected to go on display in Taiwan.
Pingyao Wantuo
Wantuo, a type of noodle from the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), is one of Pingyao's local snacks with a long history.
