On China's first Memorial Day for the Nanjing Massacre, during World War II, on Dec 13, university students in the city of Datong, Shanxi province, held ceremonies to remember the dead, with students from Datong University's Political Science and Law School providing hundreds of lighted candles in the shape of a heart, with the numbers 12·13 in the middle. There were also online mourning activities, for example, laying a floral wreath on WeChat to honor the dead. The province was also seriously damaged by the Japanese invaders.
