The city of Datong, Shanxi province, has spent 190 million yuan ($31 million) on sanitation this year and has made improvement sanitation a long-term goal, with groups at the province, city, county, and village level to guide the projects and the city finance bureau setting aside 15-million yuan more for rewarding excellent city cleaning work.
It has also set up a fund raising system to keep the program going, by bringing in capital from the province, city, county and village level.
Datong Evening News has reported that the city now has more than 6,000 full-time cleaners, 585 supervisors, 3,169 garbage trucks, and many other related vehicles, such as loaders, and has added more than 60,000 waste bins across the city, along with garbage collection sites, landfills, and transfer stations.
