There was a historic building salon to discuss their culture and appearance in the city of Datong, Shanxi province, on Nov 26, at one interesting historical site -- Middle School No.3 β which was established in the late Qing Dynasty (1636β1912) then moved to irts current site in 1913.
The meeting managed to pull in 20 specialists in relics, who came to discuss an article on the architecture of the school, written by a scholar, Zhang Xiaodong.
Zhang, whose specialty is folk culture, has spent many years studying Datong's old buildings and has a rich collection of the pieces of the city's relics. He says that he recently became obsessed with the old school site, which is under State protection, and calls it a perfect combination of eastern and western styles. He has studied the design and aesthetic concepts of the building cluster, bringing him praise from other fans.
The school is a perfectly preserved symbol of the beginnings of the 20th century and has witnessed a lot in its years. And, it's through this historical developmental lens that the organizers, the Datong Daily News Group and Wenying Mountain House, hoped to bring more attention to the site with the salon.
