Datong City Charity Federation, in North China's Shanxi province, received the largest single donation on Sept 3, since its foundation. Datong Hualin Corporation donated 10 million yuan ($1.6 million) to provide aid to students who cannot afford their tuition fees and to families with limited resources.

The company is a commercial retail enterprise, running a group of shopping malls. In recent years, it has seen rapid growth because of its creative and advanced business concepts. It has received many honors at national, provincial and city levels. The company also pays close attention to public welfare, and has undertaken many municipal projects to improve the livelihood in the city. It has donated a total of 60 million yuan over the years.

The staff at the charity said that charity work needs the support of the whole of society, and advocated the city’s enterprises take Hualin as a role model, to make contributions to the development of charity work in the city.
