To date, Shanxi has built 89 modern mines since 2012, according to statistics from the Shanxi Coal Industry Department.
The total production capacity of the 89 coal mines is estimated to be 280 million tons, accounting for 41 percent of the total estimated capacity of all operating mines in Shanxi.
A modern mine is defined according to the modernization in a mine’s production system, technological equipment, disaster treatment and information delivery. New equipment, technologies and techniques are applied in such fields to achieve equipment automation, intelligent office systems and scientific management.
About 80 of Shanxi’s mines have implemented comprehensive informatization management, recognized as demonstrations for all coal businesses in Shanxi regarding management methods.
Furthermore, the province plans to build 223 more modern mines by the end of 2015 and seek to reach 70 percent coverage of modern mines in the whole province during the 13th Five-Year Plan (2016-2020) to support the safe development of the coal industry.
