The Chunlin Fellowship launched its 2014 ceremony to lend financial aid to 198 students from households receiving subsistence allowances in and around Datong city, North China's Shanxi province.
The ceremony, held in the hall of Yanbei Hotel on Aug 25, offered 2,000 yuan ($330) each to 198 students who were admitted to universities after this year's college entrance examination.
The city government launched the Chunlin Fellowship in 2009 to help local students with limited resources and those unable to pay their college tuitions. The fellowship mainly gives aid to those who were admitted to first- and second-tier universities in China, covering all four years of college.
In six years, the fellowship has raised a total of 12 million yuan through public donation and governmental financial input. It has helped 1,337 students finish their college education.
