The Yilei Animal Husbandry Technology Company brought 1,088 Holstein purebred dairy cattle to the Datong Yilei Animal Farm in Northern China's Shanxi province. These cattle were transported to China from Australia, first staying in quarantine for 45 days for safety reasons stipulated by China Customs.
The local government has provided significant funding to Yilei Animal Farm, which is a key project of Datong's Xinrong district. Yilei is committed to improving cattle-raising conditions, developing technology and preventing diseases. The company monitors the adverse effects of cattle imports.
This is the largest cattle-raising project in the district, with an investment of 200 million yuan ($32 million). The project plans to raise 10,000 cattle for dairy-product processing. If all goes to plan, the farm will provide over 50,000 tons of fresh milk and 2,500 tons of quality beef with a total profit of 200 million yuan annually. In addition, the project will develop pasture areas and corn farms, boosting the local economy and adding over 200 jobs in the process.
