Tourism investment has surged lately in Shanxi province. Recently, 24 key tourism projects have cost a total of 74.1 billion yuan ($ 1.19 billion).

A large part of these deal with the construction of infrastructure, in particular Shijia Pagoda's world heritage application, Datong old city wall repairs, sewage disposal and transport for tourists. These efforts are aimed at providing travelers to Shanxi with a more comfortable experience.

With the help of other industries, Shanxi is also diversifying the leisure activities available to its tourists. This includes agricultural tourism, theme parks, water parks, wildlife excursions and camping.

Feng Jianping, head of Shanxi's Tourism Bureau, said that tourism development would not only yield economic, social and ecological benefits, but also increase employment opportunities.
