update: 2014-06-24

Datong Ancient Town Folk Museum opened on June 21, with more than 150 folk exhibits of ancient Datong on display.

Current exhibits include porcelains such as horse-hoof cups from the Liao Dynasty (916-1125) and furniture like the square table from the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). Century-old stoves from Germany and newspapers before liberation are also rare items to see.

Most of the exhibits on display were donated by folk experts and private collectors. With limited space, the display was designed for citizens to recall the past cultural memories.

The display is free, with offerings of tea, to create a cozy atmosphere. Moreover, organizers will hold more intangible cultural exhibitions in the future.

The folk museum was established by the district community, district administration and the ancient city management office.
