The 2014 Datong Summer Vacation Tourism Year started in Beijing, with emphasis on its cool summer to attract domestic and international tourists.

Apart from cultural attractions such as Yungang Grottoes, Hengshan Mountain and Hanging Temple, Datong also boasts an ecological beauty. The average temperature of 20 degrees Celsius in summer makes Datong the first choice for many domestic tourists from North China, Vice Mayor Cao Xuecheng said.

To welcome travelers from Beijing, all tickets for Datong scenic spots will be offered at a 50 percent discount for students who have just finished taking the college entrance examination. And another 1,000 VIP cards are waiting for tourists, offering a series of services. Seven major star hotels in Datong are offering room discounts.

A variety of activities will be held in Datong this summer, including the 2014 Datong International Sculpture Biennial Exhibition, Snowflake Beer Music Festival, International Automobile Cultural Festival and Northern Wei 398 Datong Ideal Music Festival.

Musician Xie Xiaodong said he has fallen in love with Datong after several stays to help establish the Northern Wei 398 Cultural Creative Park. He said he found the ideal city here and would stay in Datong for a long time.
