The Shanxi province tourism bureau has reported that, during the May Day holiday, May 1-3, the province earned more than 6 billion yuan ($961.16million) from tourism, for a year-on-year increase of almost 21 percent, with 33.4 million people visiting 36 scenic spots around the province, an increase of 9.1 percent.

Bureau personnel remarked that, "Relatively developed scenic areas have entered an expansionist period, especially in the number of tourists, so the next step is greater development and improved services."
