A report on a tourism satisfaction survey in China for the first quarter of 2014 has reached the Datong's tourism agency informing it that the city of Datong, Shanxi province is now in 20th place among 60 cities in China, up 10 places from last year. The survey covers urban management, environment, health, marketing, public services, transportation, accommodations, and other related areas. The national tourism satisfaction index is 71.62, which reached the average level in the nation.

Datong turned its attention in recent years to improving its "Beautiful Shanxi, beautiful Datong" promotions, its travel brand, and tourism infrastructure and its travel industry has seen a steady increase overall, while Chinese visitors and local tourists have done their part to improve the city's image.
