In 2013, Datong Yungang Airport in the city of Datong, Shanxi province was get into the list of China's Top 100 in terms of passenger throughput, according to a report released by the Civil Aviation Administration of China recently.
Due to the local authority's policy on exploring market potential and expanding its scope of service, Datong Yungang Airport has developed at an unprecedented rate. In 2013, the airport registered 4,736 aircraft movements (take-offs and landings), up 10.29 percent from 2012. In terms of passenger throughput, the airport witnessed the largest increase in Shanxi, growing by 27.07 percent year-on-year to about 358,000 passengers, around 20 percent higher than the average growth rate of northern China, which was 8%.
So far, Datong Yungang airport is serving 13 routes to 10 cities, including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Xi'an, and Shenyang.
