The city of Datong, Shanxi province started its 1st "Fuli City Cup" Kite Festival, on March 15, at Wenying Lake Eco-Park, with a wide variety of kites and competitors, from young children to the elderly, attracting huge crowds of visitors.

The kites–adorned with everything from Peking opera masks to cartoon figures to other figures, in traditional form, sport kites, and spiraling kites - could be seen everywhere, dancing in the wind, with participants running around all over the place.

The competition had three categories - individuals, teams, and a flying and exhibition section — with 20 teams joining, and 10 other teams with various performances.

Plans call for the kite festival to be held in on three consecutive weekends in the future for kite lovers of all kinds.
