The old Chinese capital Datong has been working on four ice lanterns for its 2014 lantern festival, with hundreds of blocks of ice 1.8 meters long by 30 centimeters high having been brought in and put under water-proof cloth while workers begin their carving of the ice lanterns, under various themes, such as "La Tour Eiffel", "Horse running", "Polar sight", and "Macao ruins".
One of the craftsmen explained, "A really good ice lantern should attract tourists through its meaning and shape," so the Ice lantern sculptures have different shapes and the park is alive with lights, sound, and colors, giving it the nickname "Constantly changing fairytales".
