The city of Datong, Shanxi province, recently gained recognition as a demonstration site for China’s heating-supply reforms and energy-saving construction work. The title comes from the Ministry of Housing and Urban-rural Development and the Global Environment Facility, who have many detailed requirements for energy saving in the construction work of certain cities and will be taking a closer look at energy-saving projects in the future.
Datong began the energy-saving construction work in 2005 and has developed related regulations. At present, the city has an energy-saving construction area of 23 million square meters, which is expected to save 1.15 million tons of standard coal each year.
