Wang Jianbao, director general of the of the parks and woods bureau in the city of Datong, Shanxi province, believes that ecological development is essential to the well-being of the city’s people and the nation’s future. Wang spoke recently about the problem of ecological development, according to the Datong Daily report on Dec 4.

Wang’s ideas are three-fold:First, the importance of ecological development. The city of Datong has given a lot of attention to ecological civilization, Wang explained, noting that, starting in 2008, it increased the scale of urban greening and spending and has seen some remarkable results in ecological development.

Second, this development is going to take a long time, Wang added, pointing out that, strictly following the guidelines of the 18th Party Congress will require an elaborate plan and establishing an ecological system for sustainable ecological development. This cannot be done overnight, and will need continued work and management.

And, finally, Wang went on to say, ecological development requires a joint effort, meaning all of society will have to get involved.
