The Yu Dong waterworks-engineering project on the Yellow River has been completed, providing a 100,000-cubic-meters of water per day, the Datong Daily reported on Nov 5. This takes some of the pressure off residential and industrial water demand in the Yu Dong district of the city of Datong, and guarantees a steady water supply for the city of Datong’s development.
In the past, Datong relied on the Datong Economic and Technological Development Zone as well as the Ershilupu region of Datong county for its water supplies, but the demand for water has greatly increased in recent years because of the influx of administrative units, schools, hospitals, and people, along with the arrival of start-ups in the Yu Dong district, and the water supply problem has become acute.
These new waterworks are a sub-project of the greater Datong-Yellow River water engineering project, which is costing 71.25 million yuan ($11.4 million). It covers a 39-mu (2.6 hectares) area and mainly supplies water for the Yu Dong district and the industrial park. The project began supplying water on Nov 5, with a 15000-cubic-meter/day output.
