( chinadaily.com.cn )

update: 2012-09-10

After seven months of effort, the north wall in Datong's ancient city renovation program has been restored. All the work, excluding Qian Tower, will be finished before Sept 15.

The wall is 1.8 kilometers long. Many timber-structure houses will be built on the wall, including Qian Tower, Hongzi Tower and a gatehouse.

The main construction work, including the watchtowers and gatehouse, has been essentially completed. The decoration, lighting and paint work has been accelerated but Qian Tower, the main building on the wall, may be delayed due to various factors.

After the renovation, the wall's total height will reach 12.75 meters, 0.75 meters higher than the south wall. It will become 22 meters wide, 4 meters wider than the south wall.
