The Yungang Grottoes scenic attraction put on a performance of the imperial ceremony saluting the Buddha on the morning of Sept 1 in Datong city, Shanxi province. On the same day, the scenic attraction held a folk custom exhibition of the Northern Wei Dynasty (AD 386-534) to praise the Tan Yao Monk.
The performance was staged on Lotus Road in the scenic attraction area. Many people did cosplay to represent the emperor, empress, civil servants, generals, maids, soldiers, monks, dancers and musicians. They imitated the classical scene of the imperial ceremony to salute the Buddha.
It is the first time the scenic attraction has staged a performance of this kind. Although it rained, visitors still showed great enthusiasm for the solemn and special ceremony.
The folk custom exhibition hosted in Tan Yao Square was also interesting. Participants dressed in traditional clothes and put on many folk shows from the Northern Wei Dynasty, including acrobatics, "Kuaiban" and tea ceremonies. "Kuaiban" literally means "fast talk" or "bamboo talk", which is an oral storytelling performance.
