Datong plans to build a contemporary sculpture gallery and Lu Pinchang, a sculpture professor from the China Central Academy of Fine Arts, along other scholars, was invited to discuss its design at the Yungang Jianguo Hotel.
Geng Yanbo, the city’s mayor, said that the brilliant culture and historic remains in Datong constitute unique advantages to build the gallery.
He expects it will help integrate cultural and art resources not only in Datong, but in the whole country. The gallery will exhibit sculptures and also serve as a venue to promote the development of the city’s cultural and creative industries. Geng also urged that the gallery’s layout, collection and careful selection should be ensured to make it a long-standing venue.
