According to the Datong tourist bureau, the city’s tourist industry has reached its first peak in 2012.
The city has received more than 480,000 visitors during the 7-day holiday of the Spring Festival, exhibiting a growth of 9.2 percent year-on-year. It has totaled about 156 million yuan ($24.7 million) in tourism revenue, an increase of 80 percent over the same period last year.
During the Spring Festival, various praying activities to welcome the New Year were held in Huayan Temple, Yungang Grottoes and Fuwen Temple and attracted many visitors.
In addition, the officials said the city’s tourist industry has showed steady and rapid development.
