According to the Datong survey that lasted more than four years, the third national census of cultural relics has obtained great achievements. The number of valid registered immovable cultural relics has reached 3,222 and the newly found number is 2,415. The survey focused on investigating and recording newly found immovable cultural relics and the reexamination of registered immovable cultural relics.
In addition, the survey result show that ancient relics such as old castles and beacon towers along the Great wall in Datong, account for 46.62% and historic buildings most of which are ancient dwellings, account for 39.66%. The number of vanished immovable cultural relics has reached 92 since the cultural relics have been explored and experienced improper treatment.
Local cultural relics receive their due preservation and protection through the third national census of cultural relics. The protection program will be continued to safeguard Datong’s cultural relics.
