The two-month Datong international sculpture biennale exhibition closed on Nov 28 receiving a total of 180,000 visitors. More than 200 outstanding art pieces were collected in the gallery and will be on a long-term display.
The exhibition presented 330 artworks made by 88 artists in China and abroad, reflecting the diversity and vitality of sculpture on material, style and concept.
An art forum was also kicked off during the exhibition. Renowned scholars and experts, such as the culture scholar Yu Qiuyu, attended and highly praised the gala. He believed it was a unique idea to have a modern art exhibition in an ancient city.
Datong is known for ancient sculptures represented by Yungang Grottoes. Experts thought the combination of modern and historic characteristics will make sculpture art blend into the city’s cultural life.
